When you get back home from Gardner’s RV Center and you’re driving your new RV, celebrate and warm up at the same time with some of the best hot chocolate recipes. Make sure you have everything on hand for at least one of these recipes so you’ll always have the best when you want that steaming cup of chocolate.
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1/3 cup boiling water
- 3 ½ cups milk
- ¾ tsp. Vanilla extract
- ½ cup half and half
Instructions: Combine the cocoa, sugar and salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water and then bring the mixture to a boil while stirring. Simmer the mixture while you are stirring it for about 2 minutes. Don’t let it scorch. Stir in the milk and heat the mixture until its hot but not boiling. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla. Divide into four mugs. Top off with the half and half to bring it to drinking temperature.
- 2 tbs. Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 to 2 tbs. Sugar, depending on how sweet you want your cocoa
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup half and half
- ¼ tsp. Vanilla extract
Instructions: Whisk the cocoa, sugar salt and 2 tablespoons of the half and half in a small saucepan over medium low heat. Heat until the cocoa and sugar are dissolved. Whisk in the rest of the half and half and heat over medium heat until hot. Do not boil. Add vanilla and serve. Makes 1 serving.
French Vanilla Hot Chocolate
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbs. Hershey’s Special Dark hot cocoa
- 1 ½ tsp. Sugar
- 1 ½ tsp. French Vanilla creamer
- ½ tsp. French Vanilla syrup (optional)
- Whipped cream or marshmallows
Instructions: Pour 1 cup of milk into a mug. Warm it up to your preferred drinking temperature – about 2 to 3 minutes. It will cool a bit when you add the creamer and whipped cream. Add the special dark cocoa and the sugar and stir well, Then add the creamer and French vanilla syrup. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows and serve. Makes 1 serving.
